First Nations Hand Drumming

Thank you to the First Nation, Metis and Inuit Support Team for sharing First Nations Drumming with our students this past week, the students learned about the two types of drums, the group drum for Powwows and the hand drum used for Round Dance and ceremonies. The First Nations had songs for birth, morning songs to greet the day, prayer songs and so many other important and significant songs for ceremonies and events. Singers and drummers are treated with respect and honour for their gift of song. The drum beat honours the heartbeat, this is the first sound we hear. Here is a short video to explain what our students learned A Lesson on Powwow Drumming
