Summer Reading Program News

We have started preparing for our award-winning Summer Reading Program - RDCRS READS.

By the end of June, our Pre-Kindergarten to Grade Two students will choose up to eight books to take home and read over the summer. Students who read throughout the summer months have shown an increase in their reading levels in the following school year. Reading through the summer supports and builds on students reading and language skills. A variety of books will develop a love of reading which is a lifelong journey.

Each Pre-Kindergarten to Grade Two student will also have a brand new backpack for their summer reading books. We ask that these books be returned at the beginning of September in the new backpack as they will function as the students' library bags.

Our Grade Three students will participate in a book swap the third week of June. If they bring a chapter book or paperback book, it can be swapped for a new, used chapter book to read through the summer. Please only bring one book in great condition as grade three students will only be swapping for one book.

We are looking forward to another successful summer of reading. If you post photos of your student reading you could win 1 of 3 50 Amazon gift cards. Please see students' bookmark for more information. Watch for videos from the library throughout the summer! Reading Rocks!
