Grade One Hidden Valley Field Trip

0

In June our Kindergarten students went to Hidden Valley Garden U-Pick and planted vegetables.  This week, those same students, now in Grade One, went back to visit Farmer Jim and pick the vegetables that grew.  To our surprise, Farmer Jim made a beautiful sign for our students! A heartfelt thank you Jim, for the sign, the space in your garden, the fun wagon rides, and of course for ensuring the seeds our students plant get the love and care needed over the summer so that our students have vegetables to pick in the fall!

The community partnership with Hidden Valley Garden U-Pick enhances our Kindergarten and Grade One Curriculums.  Learning about community fits in nicely with social studies.  Sorting and counting seeds and vegetables allows our students to work on math skills and the Stone Soup Celebration that follows the harvest is a nice accompaniment to religion and also touches on literacy.
