Happy 150th Birthday Canada
Posted on May 30th, 2017
We celebrated Canada's 150th Birthday on the 150th day of school. It was a busy day full of red and white and celebration!
In the morning Miss McMillan's class planted a maple tree at the front of the school.
In the afternoon we began the celebrations by singing "O Canada." We were blessed to have Mayor Sean McIntyre read to our students. He chose to read, the famous Canadian, Commander Chris Hadfield's book, The Darkest Dark. Mayor McIntyre also talked to our students about the importance of reading and shared that he reads between 500 and 1000 pages per week being the mayor.
We had Meghan from the Sylvan Lake Library and Carol and Kez from the Eckville Library in attendance as well. Meghan shared her love of reading with the students and did a great job informing our students about the fun they can have at the Sylvan Lake and Eckville libraries with the new library cards students will receive as part of the Summer Reading Program. The cards allow students to borrow materials from both the Sylvan Lake and Eckville Libraries.
The celebrations concluded with cakes decorated as Canada flags.
Thanks to Mrs. O'Gorman for organizing the fun and educational celebration and of course our guests for attending!
